Sooji Halwa or Ravva Kesari

Sooji is actually a Hindi word. This is actually the Sanna Godhuma Ravva, Bombay Ravva or Upma Ravva in telugu. the most Famous use of this dish is in the Satyanarayana Vratam. this is almost compulsory as prasadam in this pooja. Very simple, Cost effective and Quick to make dish and Very tasty tooo. Sooji comes in two types. One is fine grind and the other one is in coarse grind. This dish is very good if used the fine grind rava.

Ingredients:

Sugar                   :      ¾  cup
Sooji(Godhuma Ravva) :      1 cup
Ghee                    :      2 to 3 table spoons
Kaaju                   :      10 nos.
Kismis(raisins)      :     10 to 15 nos.
Elaichi(cardamoms):     3 nos (powdered)
Water                    :     2 cups

Method:

Heat 3 table spoons of ghee in a pan.  Fry sooji until golden brown and keep it aside.

Boil 2 cups of water in a pan and add sugar.  Stir until the sugar dissolves.  Now add fried sooji to it mix well.  Reduce the flame.  Close the lid and cook for 2 to 3 min. in a low flame.  Switch off the flame. Add ealichi powder and mix well.

Take the Halwa into a serving bowl and garnish with fried kaaju and kismis.  Tasty Sooji Halwa is ready………….It is also called as Rava Kesari in Andhra and mostly prepared at festivals and poojas.
