Sago Khees (Sabudana ki khichdi) Is usually made during fasting days like Navratri or Mahashivratri or Ekadashi. It is an easy snack and is a good recipe to be made during fasting days but it requires little experience to get the perfect non-sticky texture in the Sabu dana pearls.
Ingredients:
Sago (Sabu Dhana)-1cup
Green gram dhal-1/4 cup
Onions-2 (optional – if you are using for Vrath, you can avoid)
Tomatoes-1
Green chillies-5
Curry and coriander leaves
Salt to taste
Fresh scrapped coconut –little
Oil –3 table spoon
Turmaric –1/2 tea spoon
Lemon-1/2
Method:
- Roast Green gram dhal till warm
- Wash sago and dhal separately
- Keep in the pressure cooker with quarter part of water to the vessel to boil do 3-4 whistles,
- Remove and see whether they are cooked if not keep once again in the cooker for two whistles (Sabo Dhana takes time to boil)
- Heat oil and add mustard seed to it till they splutter
- Add onions and fry till the onion is half fried (Optional – you can avoid if this is for Vrath food)
- When half fried onions, add tomatoes cook for some time
- After tomatoes are fried, add green chilli paste ,coconut ,turmaric and the boiled sago and green gram dhal
- Boil well in low flame for 5 minutes.
- Squeeze lemon before serving and serve hot with coriander and fresh coconut on the topping
